ASD currently operates four Special Care Facilities licensed by the Texas Department of Health: The Ewing Center, Revlon Apartments, Hillcrest House, and Spencer Gardens. ASD serves an average of 175 men, women and children in 152 total bedrooms within 125 privately configured units.Seventy-six percent (76%) of the agency s resident population are racial or ethnic minorities, 24 percent were women. One hundred percent (100%) of the people served by ASD are significantly below the federal poverty line and are classified either as low- or very-low income. The agency has provided more than 326,000 person/nights of housing to more than 1,100 individuals and family members living with AIDS.Along with a home and a mutually supportive community environment, residents at each facility are provided with a range of services individually tailored to empower them to cope with the cyclical impact HIV/AIDS has on people who are living with a disease that often compromises their complete independence.*Home Health Care is provided on a 24-hour basis by ASD s staff of Personal Care Aides (PCAs). This Program provides personal care and general housekeeping support as well as emotional support for residents who must develop coping skills necessary to live with symptomatic HIV/AIDS.*Outreach to the HIV-infected homeless population in the Dallas area for all facilities is provided through collaboration between ASD and the City of Dallas Department of Environmental and Health Services.*Comprehensive Case Management by a professional staff of on-site social workers and case managers provides counseling for individuals, groups, families and couples for a range of dual diagnoses such as substance abuse and AIDS-related emotional stress. *Volunteer Support provides residents with nutritional and social support from more than 1,400 culturally diverse and caring individuals.*Medical Case Management provides residents with on-site registered nurses who coordinate medical appointments, clinical care, medication assistance, and prescription delivery with local health care providers.*Food Services provides morning and noonday meals for all residents, five days each week. The Food Services Program assures proper nutrition and a healthy diet for a population with special needs.*Transportation is provided to residents for health-related trips and supportive services. Transportation is also provided to and from local public schools to ensure the safety of the children. The agency is funded by Ryan White Titles I and HOPWA Grants. Residents pay rent on a sliding scale established by federal and state government. However, rents comprise less than four percent of the agency s annual operating budget. The agency relies on funding from individuals and private foundations in order to continue providing service enriched housing to low-income and homeless individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.
