About Human Development Services Of West Chester

Over the past quarter century we have witnessed major changes in human services policies and funding. These changes have made it increasingly necessary for agencies and service providers to work together to provide better services, more effectively advocate for their constituents, and reduce costs. It is these changes and the strength and vision of two such agencies, Futura House (founded in 1968) and Human Development Services of Port Chester (founded in 1979), which prompted them to merge in 1999 and form the dynamic organization known as Human Development Services of Westchester, Inc. Today, Human Development Services of Westchester (HDSW) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) multi-service community-based organization with an annual budget of $5.7 million dollars. Human Development Services of Westchester is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health as a provider of housing and support services to individuals recovering from severe mental illness. HDSW currently serves over 1,000 individuals and families throughout Westchester County, New York. HDSW works within a continuum of care, allying with homeless shelters, psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation programs, transitional housing programs and day treatment programs. Since the 1999 merge into Human Development Services of Westchester, this agency has grown 50%. HDSW is the largest provider of case management and residential care for those recovering from psychiatric illnesses within Westchester County. HDSW employs 100 individuals, including counselors, psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners, case managers, certified social workers, a consulting nurse practitioner and a consulting psychiatrist, as well as administrative staff.
