In 1971 Dr. Hosea L. Williams, one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s Executive staff members was leaving a staff meeting and happened across a man in the gutter begging for money. This beggar was there everyday; day after day. Sometimes he became invisible amidst the background of the white chalky sidewalk. But this day Dr. Williams saw him and offered to buy him a fish sandwich in lieu of giving him money - today would be a good day. After a short while Rev. Williams emerged from the fish market with one small sandwich. HOSEA FEED THE HUNGRY AND HOMELESS was born that day in 1971 in that small exchange of love.
