Many people who suffer from this disease need more than inpatient treatment, 12 step meetings, or abstinence. One of the hardest things for an alcoholic/addict to do is to walk through the day without picking up , whether good or bad things happen during the day. The most natural thing for us to do is to pick up a drink or a drug - to celebrate, to vent anger, to nurse wounds, to calm nerves, to pass time and any other reason you can think of. It is not a question of will power, this disease affects the mind, body and soul. We have to learn how to do everything over - with out drugs or alcohol. This starts as a moment to moment struggle, with time, commitment, surrender and hard work, it becomes a one day at a time life choice. Our homes provide an environment full of support, love, accountability and celebration. All of the people who live in our homes are fighting the same disease. The details of our struggles may differ in definition, but our stories are all the same. We have found that together, rather than alone, we can succeed.
